Who we are
The origins of Mauriora go back to the 1990’s. Data on the gap between Māori and non Māori inequities was stark within education and housing through to health and business, although the exact details of why was not clear.
Mauriora Associates, a cadre or roopu of Māori health professionals wanted to find ways to address the issues that existed for Māori in health.
We began by reviewing and researching the issues, and working with small or large organisations on change projects. You will see some of our work on the website – from research papers to policy statements and more.
Mauriora Associates offers short online training courses to help meet your annual practising certificate requirements. These are available on our website mauriora.co.nz. The courses include Cultural Competency and The Treaty of Waitangi and Healthcare.
Mauriora Associates also offers workshops and tailors courses specifically for regulated health authorities and health related disciplines if and when requested.
The Cultural Competency was developed specifically for the registered New Zealand health workforce and provides a basic understanding of cultural competency in the New Zealand Health context.
The Treaty of Waitangi established a Crown obligation to ensure that Māori would retain the full, exclusive and undisturbed possession of their Māori Lands and Estates, Forests, Fisheries and other properties.
